(Analysis)
Stories and poems about war and peace in Philippine
literature encourage peace and unity by reminding us that conflicts are
initiated by people and can be resolved by people. Mohammad Nassefh Macla is
Kaagan Moro writer, he also wrote to Dagmay: A Literary Journal of Davao, one
of the young writers in Mindanao. Most of his works deal with the never-ending
theme of war in Mindanao. Fatima The War Nurse is one of his outstanding works,
published in Dagmay in 2016. This is a free poem about the struggles and
experiences of a masked army nurse.
This piece is inspired by the poem "Fatima, War
Nurse". As shown in this painting, this Muslim woman wears her traditional
veil and mask, as protection, she continues to fight her seemingly endless
struggle. During the conflict, her mission is to provide medical services to
the injured and the injured. This woman is called Fatima in the poem
"Fatima, War Nurse". This artwork shows the strength, talent,
determination and sense of accomplishment of Muslim women who have been
condemned and discriminated against by the trial society.
